Stargirl

Stargirl

Jerry Spinelli (2000)

Two great reads in a row... "Stargirl" is the hippie-chick non-conformist new kid in school, and no one understands her weird ways. Lots of popularity, acceptance, and fitting in issues, and fighting for who you are/who you want to be... also caring for others, and missed oportunities -- I kept rooting for the guy to wake up, be strong, don't let her go!

connections: the sequel Love, Stargirl, A Walk To Remember (YA?), the X-Men

There's a sequel called Love, Stargirl. It's one of my daughter's favorite books. It does indeed tell the story of what happens to Stargirl and it tells it from her perspective this time.

Happy reading!

You're welcome. I can't keep up with you. I guess unemployment allows for much more reading time than I would have imagined. I can't even keep up with your reviews, let alone your reading pace.

I just finished Eragon. I liked it but, it felt...incomplete? I guess I have to get the next book. All these series are making it hard for me to keep track of what's left to read and what's going on in each fantasy land (was Lyra riding a dragon?).

SiL, I have been reading too much, so the house is thrashed and the boys wear the same clothes for a week... actually, the children's books are quick and easy reads, and I consider it homework that I actually enjoy...

Stargirl is an all-time favorite of mine! I got Love, Stargirl (the sequel) for Christmas and am looking forward to reading it shortly.

p.s. when we read Stargirl in my book club, we also looked at the character Jamie from Nicholas Sparks' A Walk to Remember. so there's a connection for you!
